Can donors sponsor a specific animal with a monthly gift?
Yes. Create a campaign for each adoptable animal with its photo and monthly preset amounts (for example $10, $20, $35, $60 a month). Donors can give monthly and use a secure email link to update payment details or cancel future gifts, without creating an account. Plan how existing monthly gifts should continue when an animal is adopted; ending a campaign is not a substitute for managing those gifts.
What are all the fees, total?
DonatoTomato charges a flat 1% platform fee per donation, including monthly gifts, with no monthly fee, no setup fee and no long-term commitment. Stripe processing fees are additional; card and bank payments have different rates, and your connected Stripe account determines the actual fees. A monthly gift also carries Stripe's own fee for running the repeating charge, billed to your Stripe account. Can donors give from their bank account?
Yes. DonatoTomato supports US bank account gifts (ACH), both one-time and new monthly gifts. Email hello@donatotomato.com to enable bank gifts for your organization. We will help you confirm the required Stripe bank-email setting before switching them on. Existing recurring gifts are not automatically moved to a bank account.
How do we add giving to our WordPress site?
Create your account and a campaign, connect Stripe to receive gifts, and install the DonatoTomato plugin (wordpress.org/plugins/donatotomato). Add your Organization ID and enable the floating Donate button, or place an inline form. The embed guide walks through each option.
Where does the money actually go?
Donations are processed directly in your rescue's own Stripe account. Bank gifts can take several business days to complete; payouts follow your Stripe schedule after funds become available. DonatoTomato never holds your funds.
Do donors receive tax receipts?
Completed gifts trigger branded receipts. Tax acknowledgment language depends on your organization's eligibility and the gift details. You can also create annual giving statements from donor records.
Will our donors get asked to tip the platform at checkout?
No, never. Checkout stays focused on your rescue. Our fee is a flat 1% your organization pays and can see in the dashboard. There is an optional, off-by-default checkbox donors can use to add an estimated processing contribution so more of their gift reaches the animals; our 1% platform fee and standard Stripe processing still apply.
We're a foster-based rescue with no office or tech person. Is this for us?
That's exactly who this is for. There's nothing to install on a server and no developer needed: connect Stripe, create a campaign, and add the widget to your site (one switch on WordPress, one paste anywhere else). The dashboard handles receipts, donor records, and recurring gifts for you.
