DonatoTomato vs Anedot

An Anedot alternative using your own Stripe account

Anedot is a hosted giving platform: in Anedot's recommended flow, donors give on Anedot-hosted pages, and Anedot is both the processor and the platform, with no monthly fee and an all-in per-transaction rate.

Anedot is a capable, honestly priced platform: no monthly fee and one all-in rate per donation, with processing included. On a one-time card gift, the total cost of DonatoTomato and Anedot works out comparable for many organizations, so we will not pretend price is the reason to switch. The differences are structural. With Anedot's recommended setup, donors give on an Anedot-hosted page and Anedot processes the payment. With DonatoTomato, the whole gift happens in a widget embedded on your own website, and donations land directly in your own Stripe account, you are the merchant of record, and the processing relationship is yours to keep.

Frequently asked questions

Is DonatoTomato cheaper than Anedot?

On a one-time card gift it is often about the same in total, and we would rather tell you that plainly. DonatoTomato charges a flat 1% platform fee plus your own Stripe processing (2.9% + $0.30 standard, or 2.2% + $0.30 if Stripe approves your organization for its nonprofit rate, as of August 2026; international cards cost more on either rate, and American Express is priced separately on the nonprofit rate); Anedot charges 501(c)(3)s an all-in 3.3% + $0.30 on cards (as of September 2026) with no monthly fee. On DonatoTomato, a monthly gift also carries Stripe's own fee for running the repeating charge, billed to your Stripe account. The real differences are where donors give (your own site versus Anedot's recommended hosted page) and where the money lands (your own Stripe account versus the platform's processing).

What does owning your own Stripe account mean in practice?

You are the merchant of record. Donations settle into a Stripe account that belongs to your organization, pay out to your bank on Stripe's normal schedule, and the account, its payout history, and your donors' saved payment relationships remain yours no matter what happens to DonatoTomato. We facilitate the connection and never hold your money.

Can donors give without leaving my website?

The donation form is embedded on your own site as an inline widget or a floating button. Stripe handles payment fields and may guide bank donors through verification outside the form.

Should political campaigns switch to DonatoTomato?

No. DonatoTomato is built for nonprofits and charities, and we do not offer the compliance tooling (such as FEC reporting) that political committees need. Anedot serves that use case well. If you run a 501(c)(3) or a church, DonatoTomato covers the donation side completely.

Does DonatoTomato ask donors for a tip?

No. The only optional add-on at checkout is clearly labeled as an estimated processing contribution, and it is never framed as a tip. There is no separate ask that funds DonatoTomato.

Can donors give from their bank account?

Yes. DonatoTomato supports US bank account gifts (ACH), both one-time and new monthly gifts. Email hello@donatotomato.com to enable bank gifts for your organization. We will help you confirm the required Stripe bank-email setting before switching them on. Existing recurring gifts are not automatically moved to a bank account.
