DonatoTomato vs GiveWP

A hosted GiveWP alternative for nonprofit giving

GiveWP is a self-hosted WordPress plugin: free core, with paid add-on bundles for features like recurring giving and fee recovery.

GiveWP is capable, but it is software you host and maintain on your own WordPress site, and several of the features nonprofits rely on most (recurring donations, fee recovery, richer dashboards) live in paid add-on bundles. DonatoTomato is hosted: connect your Stripe, embed one line of code or flip on the WordPress plugin's floating button, and recurring giving, automatic tax receipts, donor management, and an optional estimated processing contribution are all included in one flat 1% platform fee per donation.

DonatoTomato is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by GiveWP. Why nonprofits choose DonatoTomato

Hosted donation tools

We host and maintain the giving platform, donor records and receipts. You manage your website and any plugin updates as part of that work.

One flat price

Monthly giving, receipts, donor management and donation accounting are all included in the 1% platform fee, with Stripe's own fees separate. No tiered add-on bundles to buy as you grow.

Add giving to your website

Create a campaign and connect Stripe to receive gifts. Then add the form using the WordPress plugin or an embed.

Switching from GiveWP

Plan for existing monthly donors.

Starting new gifts on DonatoTomato and moving an existing recurring-giving program are separate steps. Existing recurring gifts do not automatically transfer. Confirm how current gifts will continue, how donors will manage them, and what your old provider requires before retiring the old form or plugin. Email us to discuss the transition.

Plan your transition
  1. 1Create a free DonatoTomato account and connect your Stripe.
  2. 2Create your campaign with its name, goal and photo.
  3. 3Add the DonatoTomato form to a preview page using the WordPress plugin or embed code. Verify the new form before updating links from GiveWP.
  4. 4After the new form is verified and your existing recurring-giving plan is in place, follow your old provider's instructions for retiring the old setup.

Frequently asked questions

Is DonatoTomato cheaper than GiveWP?

There is no monthly fee from DonatoTomato and no add-on subscriptions: you pay a flat 1% platform fee per donation, and recurring giving, fee recovery, receipts, and donor management all come with it. Whether that is cheaper depends on your volume, but there is nothing to buy upfront and no licenses to renew.

Do I still need WordPress?

No. DonatoTomato works on any website. If you do use WordPress, our plugin adds a site-wide floating Donate button in about a minute, but Squarespace, Wix, Webflow, or a plain HTML site work just as well with one line of embed code.

Where do donations go?

Directly into your own Stripe account. You are the merchant of record, and funds pay out to your bank on Stripe's normal schedule. DonatoTomato never holds your money.

Can I move my recurring donors over?

New recurring donations set up through DonatoTomato bill through your Stripe automatically. Moving an existing recurring base usually means asking donors to set up their gift again; some platforms offer a paid migration of stored cards. Either way, we can help you plan the switch-over message to your monthly donors.

Does DonatoTomato ask donors for a tip?

No. The only optional add-on at checkout is clearly labeled as an estimated processing contribution, and it is never framed as a tip. There is no separate ask that funds DonatoTomato.

Can donors give from their bank account?

Yes. DonatoTomato supports US bank account gifts (ACH), both one-time and new monthly gifts. Email hello@donatotomato.com to enable bank gifts for your organization. We will help you confirm the required Stripe bank-email setting before switching them on. Existing recurring gifts are not automatically moved to a bank account.
