DonatoTomato vs Fundraise Up

A Fundraise Up alternative built for small nonprofits

Fundraise Up is a hosted donation platform with performance-based pricing: a platform fee set against your online donation processing volume, no setup or subscription fee, and your own Stripe account underneath.

Fundraise Up and DonatoTomato agree on two things: your own Stripe underneath, and a platform fee rather than a donor tip as the way the platform is paid. Its CEO has published a case against tipping in the donation experience, and we build the same way. Where the two part is the size of the platform fee. Fundraise Up describes its fee as performance-based, set against your organization's online donation processing volume; its pricing page prints no rate and invites you to request a demo, its CEO's June 2026 post says plainly that Fundraise Up charges 4%, and its fee-coverage article works its example at that rate (as of September 2026). DonatoTomato publishes one number on its pricing page: a flat 1%, which comes to $4.20 in total on a $100 card gift at Stripe's standard rate, or $3.50 at the nonprofit rate, and the FAQ below sets the two side by side.

Frequently asked questions

How does a flat 1% compare with Fundraise Up?

Fundraise Up describes its platform fee as performance-based, set against your organization's online donation processing volume; its pricing page prints no rate, and its CEO's June 2026 post says plainly that Fundraise Up charges 4%. The worked example on its own site is its fee-coverage article, which runs at 4% of the amount charged: its table shows $4.00 of platform fee and $3.20 of processing on a $100 card gift at Stripe's standard rate, $7.20 in fees and a $92.80 payout (as of September 2026). DonatoTomato on that same gift is $4.20 all in, or $3.50 if Stripe approves your organization for its nonprofit rate (as of August 2026).

Do I have to book a demo to get started?

No. You create an account, connect Stripe, build a campaign and paste the embed code, and your form takes its first gift once Stripe finishes verifying your organization. There is no call to schedule.

What does my donor see at checkout?

Your organization, your suggested amounts, and one optional line offering to cover the card processing fee. It is opt-in and never pre-checked, and nothing on the page asks your donor to fund DonatoTomato.

Do donations go straight to me?

Yes. Donations land directly in your own Stripe account; you are the merchant of record. DonatoTomato never holds your funds.

Does DonatoTomato ask donors for a tip?

No. The only optional add-on at checkout is clearly labeled as covering the card processing fee, and it is never framed as a tip. There is no separate ask that funds DonatoTomato.
