Donately is a hosted donation platform sold three ways: a pay-as-you-go platform percentage, a lower percentage on a monthly plan, or no platform percentage if you prepay, with every feature available on all three.
Donately offers three ways to pay for the same product, and DonatoTomato offers one. As of September 2026, Donately publishes a 4% platform fee pay-as-you-go with no commitment, 2% on a $99 monthly plan, or 0% if you prepay $5,000 for up to $1M raised, with payment processing charged separately on all three and every feature available on every plan. DonatoTomato is a flat 1% per donation, no monthly plan and nothing to prepay. On a one-time $100 card gift at the 2.2% + $0.30 nonprofit processing rate Donately's own FAQ cites, the pay-as-you-go route comes to $6.50 in fees against $3.50 with us, or $4.20 with us at Stripe's standard rate. Which route is cheapest depends on how much you raise and how much you are willing to commit up front, so the fee is worth working out on your own numbers before you choose.

Starting new gifts on DonatoTomato and moving an existing recurring-giving program are separate steps. Existing recurring gifts do not automatically transfer. Confirm how current gifts will continue, how donors will manage them, and what your old provider requires before retiring the old form or plugin. Email us to discuss the transition.

On a one-time $100 card gift at the 2.2% + $0.30 nonprofit processing rate its own FAQ cites, pay-as-you-go comes to $6.50 and the monthly plan to $4.50 plus the $99 for that month, against $3.50 with DonatoTomato at the same processing rate. The prepay route is the one that can cost less than 1%: $5,000 covers up to $1M raised, so it beats our 1% once you raise more than $500,000 against it, and works out to 0.5% at the full $1M.
Neither. No subscription, no setup fee, no long-term commitment and no minimum. In a month when nobody donates, DonatoTomato costs your organization nothing at all.
Donors can add an estimated processing contribution. The same card-rate estimate applies to card and bank gifts and may differ from the actual Stripe fee. It is opt-in and never pre-checked. Our 1% is paid by your organization and is never added to a donor's total.
Yes. Donations land directly in your own Stripe account; you are the merchant of record. DonatoTomato never holds your funds.
No. The only optional add-on at checkout is clearly labeled as an estimated processing contribution, and it is never framed as a tip. There is no separate ask that funds DonatoTomato.
Yes. DonatoTomato supports US bank account gifts (ACH), both one-time and new monthly gifts. Email hello@donatotomato.com to enable bank gifts for your organization. We will help you confirm the required Stripe bank-email setting before switching them on. Existing recurring gifts are not automatically moved to a bank account.
